Springtime in St. Augustine
Springtime in St. Augustine is something you won’t want to miss, but with so many spots to visit along its cobblestone lanes and pristine beaches kissed by the sun, it can almost seem impossible to plan the perfect trip. No stress, we’re here to help! Here are some tips and tricks for planning the perfect Spring getaway to St. Augustine, Florida.
The Best Beaches
Whether you’re looking to bask in the warmth of the Florida sun or stroll along the water’s edge at sunrise, the beaches of St. Augustine promise breathtaking miles of soft sand and endless opportunities to explore a new one every day. On days when you’re looking for a quiet escape, we recommend living like a local and heading across the bridge to Vilano Beach. Or, feed your adventurous side, and stay close to your room at The Local – St. Augustine, with a visit to Anastasia State Park, where you’ll get to explore miles of beaches alongside hiking trails, wildlife, and more. There’s also the tried-and-true St. Augustine Beach, where an abundance of delicious food and drinks are only a few steps away from your spot in the sand.
Local Eats
The best way to live like a local this Spring in St. Augustine is to eat like one! Located in the heart of Historic Downtown, Barley Republic is an Irish Gastro Pub and Cocktail Bar serving up a spin on delicious Irish favorites, fresh brews, and live music. Treylor Park is a newer local favorite, where everything is done with quality in mind. This downtown gem offers smooth cocktails or a cool crisp draft beer, and a twist on southern favorites. We recommend sitting by the bar or out back on the patio during your next visit.
Can’t miss Tours
St. Augustine offers a wide variety of tours for its out-of-town guests. Whether you want to embark on a spooky night with Ghost and Gravestones or indulge in a delicious evening of eats downtown with St. Augustine Food Tours, there surely is something to fit everyone’s interest. Our favorite tour is found in the historic Florida Ice Plant building, where you and your friends can take a stroll through the St. Augustine Distillery and learn about our very own spirits collection! Try their spirits line, including bourbon, gin, vodka, and rum, as you walk through the historic facility. Afterward, you’ll even have the chance to try more samples in their gift shop before taking home a bottle of your favorite spirit. Keep in mind, tasting tours are free and open to the public but you must be 21+ to indulge.
Shop Like A Local
Shopping is always a must in the Oldest City, and St. Augustine prides itself on offering dozens of locally owned gems worth visiting. Some of our favorite shops are found over on Anastasia Island, where downtown blends with beach life. Linen + Waves offers a coastal-chic collection of clothing, swimsuits, and coastal gifts, in a space that evokes the feeling of coastal living and the warmth of southern hospitality. Just a block down the road, you’ll also find Five 0 Six Boutique, a quaint women’s boutique featuring curated coastal-inspired apparel, swimwear, and accessories. With name brands, local makers, and female-founded businesses being a core category of the boutique their loyal customers constantly mention their love for the collections – with clothing and finds they have not seen elsewhere.
Cocktail Corners
St. Augustine’s cocktail scene just keeps getting better! With its array of quaint waterfront bars overlooking the Matanzas Bay to trendy rooftop lounges with panoramic views of the historic district, there’s a cocktail spot to suit every taste and occasion. Nestled on Aviles Street, Forgotten Tonic is serving up one-of-a-kind modern cocktails and mocktails that will leave you wanting to order that second drink. Odd Birds can be found on Anastasia Island and is owned by some local folks who are not at all new or unfamiliar with the craft cocktail scene. With its rotating drink menu and small plates, this gastropub is one you won’t want to skip.
Maybe you want to trade the quaint cocktail bar for a lively rooftop experience, Casa Reina is just the place! Paying homage to a St. Augustine landmark home, Casa Reina was conceived as a gathering place for both locals and visitors alike that borrows inspiration from Mexican, Latin American, and Florida Coastal Cuisine. Their array of tequila-based cocktails and waterfront views come together to offer a cocktail experience fit for a Queen.
